An overview of the cash flow in Odoo Accounting

The cash flow in Odoo shows how money flows in and out of your business. With the right setup, the report updates automatically. This article explains how the report is structured and how to use account tags.

Structure of the cash flow

In Accounting > Reporting > Cash Flow you will find: opening balance (bank and cash), cash flows from operating activities (customer and supplier payments), investing and extraordinary activities, and closing balance. Only posted entries are included; drafts are not.

Account tags

Account tags (in Odoo: set via the Tags field on an account) determine which part of the report a transaction goes to: Operating (day-to-day revenue and costs), Investing (purchase/sale of assets), or Financing (loans, capital, dividends). Without correct tags, amounts may be missing or appear in the wrong section. Set tags in the chart of accounts (Accounting > Configuration > Chart of Accounts): open an account, under View select the Tags field and choose or create the right tag.

Practical tips

Reconcile bank and cash regularly; use clear account names; set up payment follow-ups. That way your cash flow stays reliable. We are happy to help with setting up Odoo accounting and reporting.
