The cash flow statement in Odoo Accounting

10 March 20264 min read

The cash flow statement in Odoo shows how money flows in and out of your business. With the right settings the report updates itself automatically. In this article we explain how the statement is put together and how to use account tags.

How the cash flow statement is structured

Under Accounting → Reporting → Cash Flow Statement you will find, among other things:

  • the opening balance (bank and cash);
  • cash flows from operating activities (customer payments, supplier payments);
  • investing activities and extraordinary activities;
  • the closing balance.

Only posted entries are included; drafts are not.

Account tags

Account tags (in Odoo: Tags on an account) determine which part of the report a transaction ends up in:

  • Operating — day-to-day revenue and costs;
  • Investing — the purchase and sale of assets;
  • Financing — loans, capital and dividends.

Without the right tags, amounts go missing or end up in the wrong block. Set tags via the chart of accounts (Accounting → Configuration → Chart of Accounts): open an account and pick the appropriate tag in the Tags field.

In practice

Reconcile your bank and cash accounts regularly, give accounts clear names and use payment reminders. That is the only way to keep your cash flow statement reliable. We are happy to help you set up Odoo Accounting and its reports.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Where do I find the cash flow report in Odoo?

Go to Accounting, then Reporting, and choose Cash Flow Statement. Only posted entries are counted.

What are account tags and where do I set them?

Account tags determine which block of the report an entry ends up in (operating, investing or financing). Set them via Accounting > Configuration > Chart of Accounts; open an account and pick the right tag in the Tags field.

Why are the amounts in my cash flow statement wrong?

Check whether all relevant accounts have the right tags and whether you reconcile your bank and cash accounts regularly. Without tags, amounts end up in the wrong block or go missing altogether.
