ConnectivityLIR services

Your own AS number, without becoming a LIR.

For multihoming you need your own AS number and often your own IP space. You do not have to join RIPE NCC for that: we sponsor the request, handle the registration and keep route objects and ROAs in order. Your resources remain yours.

When do you need your own AS?

You need your own AS number once you exchange routes over BGP with more than one network and want to decide how traffic enters and leaves your network. RIPE NCC only assigns one if you are, or will be, multihomed and have your own routing policy.

If you have a single connection and only need addresses, your own AS is usually unnecessary. We can then supply IPv4 addresses from our own space, and IPv6 comes with every connection. We would rather say so up front than have you file a request for nothing.

What we handle

From request to a route on the internet.

AS number through sponsorship
We file the request with RIPE NCC as your sponsoring LIR. The AS number is assigned to your organisation, not to us.
IPv6 and PI space
Your own IPv6 space or provider-independent addresses, with the justification RIPE NCC asks for. An IPv4 block from our space is also possible; for a full /24 we refer you to a supplier.
Route objects and ROAs
We create the route objects and ROAs that match your announcements, so networks that filter on RPKI accept your routes.
BGP on our network
Combine it with IP transit: your sessions, prefix list and DDoS notifications are in the dashboard.
How it works

From conversation to first session.

  1. Introduction
We discuss your network, your upstreams and whether you really need your own AS.
  2. Sponsorship agreement
RIPE NCC requires an agreement between you and the sponsoring LIR. We sign it together.
  3. Request and registration
We file the request, answer RIPE NCC's questions and put the objects in the RIPE Database.
  4. Live
Route objects and ROAs are in place, your BGP session on our network comes up and your prefixes are visible.
Why Xyphen IT

Your resources, managed with us.

  • Resources registered to your organisation
  • Route objects and ROAs that match what you announce
  • Engineers who do BGP every day, not a ticket desk
  • IPv6 always included with IP transit

If you later want to become a LIR yourself or change sponsors, we help with the transfer.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about LIR services

What is the difference between becoming a LIR and sponsorship?

As a LIR you are a member of RIPE NCC yourself and pay the membership: according to the RIPE Charging Scheme 2026, € 1,000 once and € 1,800 per year. With sponsorship an existing LIR handles the request and the contact with RIPE NCC for you. For one AS number and some IP space, sponsorship is usually the logical choice.

What does an AS number cost at RIPE NCC?

According to the Charging Scheme 2026, RIPE NCC charges € 50 per year per assigned AS number, sponsored ones included, and € 75 per year per other independent resource such as PI space. On top of that comes the work of the sponsoring LIR. What that costs with us we discuss in a conversation, because it depends on what you need.

Who owns the AS number and the IP space?

Your organisation. The sponsoring LIR is your point of contact with RIPE NCC, but the resources are assigned to you. The LIR membership we sponsor from is registered to Innovation Harbor B.V., the company behind our network.

Can I get just IPv4 addresses?

Yes. We supply smaller blocks from our own IPv4 space, with IP transit or colocation. If you need a full /24, we refer you to a supplier that leases or sells address space. IPv6 is always included with IP transit.

Do I also have to buy IP transit from you?

No, you can use the AS number and IP space with any upstream. It is convenient though: we then set up the route objects, ROAs and BGP session in one go, and you see everything in our dashboard.

Can I change sponsoring LIR later?

Yes. RIPE NCC has a procedure for that. If you want to move to another LIR or become one yourself, we cooperate with the transfer.

Discuss your AS request.

Tell us what you want to achieve with your network, and we will look at whether you need your own AS and what we can handle for you.
